Abstract

Enterprise resource planning ( ERP ) system is a packaged business software system that enables a company
to manage the efficient and effective use of resources by providing a total integrated solution for the
organisation information processing needs. It is a solution integrating the various functional spheres in an
organisation over the last decade, there has been a significant shift in business models from hierarchical line
of business oriented activities to more process driven models that is motivating a re-examination
application software. This is challenge for this system is to set up and integrate information resources across
geographically spread business unit to enable optimisation across the organisation. This research paper
gives an insight into the evolution of ERP system and the benefits related to this system.
