Abstract

This case study looks at the development, growth, difficulties, and prospects of BYJU'S, the top ed-tech business in India, between 2013
and 2025. Through several billion-dollar investments and smart acquisitions, including Osmo, Aakash Educational Services, WhiteHat
Jr., Epic, and GeoGebra, the firm has grown from its $9 million initial funding in 2013 to become a global leader in ed-tech. Between 2020
and 2021, BYJU's position in K–12 education, test preparation, coding, early learning, and professional upskilling was greatly increased
by the quick acquisition frenzy. The study does, however, also draw attention to the significant issues and problems that BYJU'S faces,
including claims of pushy sales tactics, a bad workplace atmosphere, course misrepresentation, delayed financial reporting, valuation
markdowns, and trouble turning free users into paying subscribers. Hyper-growth gave way to consolidation between 2022 and 2025 as
the business struggled with financial strain, governance issues, layoffs, and restructuring demands. Despite these obstacles, BYJU's
future hinges on bolstering its core learning offerings, enhancing transparency, incorporating previous acquisitions, and implementing
sustainable business practices. The growth story of BYJU, the intricacies of its operational model, and the strategic changes required for
its long-term stability in the ed-tech industry are all thoroughly explained in this case study.
